题目:Central Configurations of the N-body Problem and Spacecraft Orbit Design

摘要: The motion of a celestial body is described by a system of second order differential equations and is called the n-body problem. A central configuration is an arrangement of the initial positions of masses that leads to special families of solutions of the n-body problem. The study of central configurations is particularly useful for designing spacecraft trajectory and finding methods of exploring space with low energy consumption. This talk will present some new results of central configurations and an open question which can be investigated by interested undergraduate students or graduate students.  Animations and mathematical concepts of Inter Planetary Superhighway will also be presented.
