It is oftennecessary to differentiate subjects from multiple categories using medical tests.We may then adopt statistical measures to characterize the performance of thesetests. The three-way ROC analysis has been proposed to evaluate the diagnosticaccuracy of medical tests with three categories, reflecting the correctclassification probabilities across all possible decision thresholds. Thegeometry of the ROC surface is carefully studied, leading to numerical summarymeasures such as the volume under the surface. This paper generalizes theglobal volume under the surface of three way ROC analysis to the weightedvolume under the surface (WVUS) by introducing a weight function emphasizingparticular regions of correct classification probabilities. This generalizationpractically allows researchers to calculate the diagnostic accuracy for amedical or clinical biomarker while satisfactorily high probabilities ofcorrect classification for one or two classes are conditionally ensured. Weprovide the asymptotic properties of the proposed nonparametric and parametricestimators of WVUS, which could easily lend support to statistical inferences.Some simulations have been conducted to assess the proposed estimators and alsoto demonstrate the necessity of WVUS. A real data analysis about liver cancerillustrates our methodology.

Huang Leigraduated from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2010. Hegraduated from the National University of Singapore with a Ph.D. in 2015. He iscurrently an assistant professor of statistics at the Department ofMathematics, Southwest Jiaotong University, and a master's tutor. His mainresearch directions are semi-parametric time series models and financialstatistical analysis. Medical biostatistics. Published nearly 10 articles inSCI journals, including several articles published in journals such as Annalsof Statutes, Journal Materials in Medical Research, Computer Systems and DataAnalysis, and Journal of State-based Computing and Simple. Presided over theNatural Science Foundation Youth Project, one participating project on thesurface, one youth project, and a visiting scholar of the National OverseasStudy Foundation Committee in 2017.
